On March 12th, I was setting up for my first art fair of the year, in Scottsdale, Arizona. I was so happy to be out in the warm sun and chatting with fellow artists. And then, just like that, the entire world flipped on it's head. The show was cancelled. Soon enough, all my shows would cancel. Shortly after that my studio would close. And then the city would go under 'stay at home' orders. All within these last few weeks.
The idea to create a piece a day happened shortly after returning from Scottsdale. It has kept me somewhat sane during this time of uncertainty. It's been a reminder for myself to be patient, steady, and forgiving.
This series of mandalas were created using images of various species of butterflies, moths and other insects. I began with my own original photograph, then digitally altered the image to create an abstract mandala that mimics the insects’ own natural symmetry.
